ChessMind Privacy Policy

This policy explains how ChessMind collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use our chess tactics training application, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Data controller

2. Data we collect

  • Account data: email address, credentials, language preferences.
  • Activity data: puzzle history, success rate, ELO progression, training plans, response times, game modes used.
  • Technical and log data: connection data (date/time, IP address truncated or anonymized when possible), device/browser type, security events (sign-in attempts).
  • Support communications: messages you send through the app or by email.

3. Purposes of processing

  • Provide and administer your account, authenticate users, and save your progress.
  • Personalize exercises (themes, difficulty, recommendations) and enhance user experience.
  • Maintain security, prevent fraud, and protect leaderboard integrity.
  • Analyze usage in aggregate to improve product quality and stability.
  • Respond to support requests and comply with legal obligations (billing, security).

4. Legal bases

  • Contract performance: creating and managing the account, access to puzzles, progress tracking.
  • Legitimate interest: securing the service, preventing fraud/abuse, continuous improvement, and aggregated analytics.
  • Consent (when applicable): non-essential marketing communications or notifications, only if you opt in.

5. Recipients and processors

Data may be processed by essential technical providers (hosting, transactional email, analytics and monitoring) bound by confidentiality and strict processing instructions. We do not sell or rent your personal data.

6. Transfers outside the EU

Our infrastructure is hosted in the European Union. If some providers operate outside the EU, transfers are safeguarded by appropriate measures (e.g., EU Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent).

7. Retention periods

  • Account data and training history: kept while your account is active, then deleted when you close it (subject to legal obligations or temporary backups).
  • Technical logs and security events: retained for up to 12 months.
  • Support exchanges: retained for up to 24 months after the last interaction.

8. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures (encryption in transit, access controls, anomaly monitoring) to protect data against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration.

9. Cookies and trackers

ChessMind uses essential cookies and trackers (authentication, session continuity, language preference). We do not serve behavioral advertising. You may configure your browser to block cookies; some core features may be degraded as a result.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you may exercise: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability, and the right to define instructions for your data after death (where applicable). To exercise your rights, email contact@chessmind.app using the address tied to your account; we may request proof of identity.

11. Complaints

If you believe your rights are not respected, you may lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority CNIL – 3 Place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, https://www.cnil.fr.
